Why did exactly such opportunists arise in the field of IVF? This chaos in our country has been a trouble for other countries such as England, France, U.S.A and Australia, too. Thus, it is worth to analyse what happened in these countries.
IVF really is a new era in infertility treatment. Especially, development of ICSI after 1992 provided hope for infertile couples with severe male factor. But, the fact that a lot of couples will not be able have their own children should not be forgotten. Despite improvements in the field, take home baby rate for a single IVF procedure is still around 30%.
Limited technology restricted rapid development of IVF until mid 1980’s. After this time, IVF centers increased rapidly. In 1990’s, there were too many IVF centers in London, targeting rich couples coming from other countries. Later, organizations controlling these IVF centers were developped. This disorganization has been resolved subsequently.
First IVF center has been instituted in 1988 in our country. Trained doctors in the field subsequently formed their own centers and number of centers increased geometrically. Today, number of IVF centers in Istanbul alone reached 37.
