What does genetics provide for IVF?
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis offers the opportunity of healthy children to couples with a previous child affected by a single gene disorder such as thalassemia, cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, spinal muscular dystrophy, myotonic dystrophy, retinitis pigmentosa, fragile X syndrome and Canavan’s disease. PGD also offers the opportunity of a new HLA compatible child and subsequent stem cell transplantation.
Is stem cell transplantation to azospermic patients possible?
Patients with azospermia can have a child via ICSI in case if TESE reveals any sperms. However, there is no solution for patients who have no sperms in tissues obtained surgically via TESE. Only hop efor such patients is new developments in this field. Can stem cell transplantation be a hope?
