Actually, embryos are selected according to their structure and fragmentation patterns for embryo transfer. Other selection methods include leaving embryos in the culture medium for 5-6 days and picking up embryos with highest potential of growth and genetical analysis of embryos to be transferred. Recently, HLA-G has been found to be important for selection of embryos to be transferred in some studies.
HLA-G is secreted by the embryo. It is thought to prevent embryo rejection by the maternal immune system. Embryos with higher levels of HLA-G secretion have been proven to implant more.
Theoretically, HLA-G can be accepted as a good marker of successful implantation. But the subject lacks sufficent studies.
